Verification records what our published tests found on a specific version at a specific date. It is not a warranty, and it does not certify that software is free of defects.

Pinned version

Installing one exact published release rather than whatever is current.

Verification applies to a version and records the hash of exactly what was tested. Install a floating version and the badge on the listing describes something other than what you are running, which makes it decoration.

It also removes the update path an attacker most wants, which is the one where a change reaches you without anybody choosing to accept it.

Why it matters

It is the one setting that makes a verification result mean anything about your own installation.

The mistake everyone makes

Pinning once and never looking again. Pinning is a decision to review updates deliberately, not a decision to stop receiving them.
