Agent Proxy

deemwario · Agent

AgentProxy is a proxy that runs on your machine between AI coding agents and their remote APIs. It meters spend per request, refuses the next call with a 429 once an unattended run reaches your limit, and shows cost per request, provider and project in a local dashboard. It also masks secrets in outgoing traffic. The package installs the AgentProxy command line and a wrapper for each supported agent, and it has a free trial and a licence login. The agents themselves must already be installed.

Written by ooruby from the README of @deemwario/agent-proxy 0.1.8.

Why it's useful

Lets you put a spending limit on an unattended coding agent and masks secrets in the requests it sends.

What you could do with it

  1. 1Set a budget for an unattended coding agent run so the next request is refused once the limit is reached.
  2. 2Watch live cost per request, per provider and per project in the local dashboard.
  3. 3Start an agent through its wrapper so API keys and .env values are masked before the traffic leaves your machine.

Written from its documentation: what it says it can do, not what our checks found.

Maintenance

Not measured

No release date is on record for this package yet. The nightly publisher check records one as it reaches each npm package, about once every ten nights.

Release activity only: it says nothing about quality or safety, and a finished small package can be fine without releases. How it is measured

Not yet tested
Command execution is bounded
inventory
node child_process (scripts/postinstall.js:22)
synchronous shell execution (scripts/postinstall.js:145)
node child_process (scripts/run.js:6)
synchronous shell execution (scripts/run.js:22)
An inventory of where the code starts another program, not a verdict on this row: whether each one runs a fixed program or whatever it is handed takes a reading by hand.
Licence and provenance
finding
no LICENCE file at the root (.)

Published because it was found. A finding is information about where the limits are, not a verdict that the software is unsafe.

In its maker's words

Hard budget caps for AI coding agents - blocks the next request at the network boundary before it costs more. Installs the AgentProxy CLI + per-agent wrappers.

How far this has been checked

Static scanned

What it establishes
Its published package, or for a hosted server its source repository at a recorded commit, was read file by file, without running it, by every check in our current scan.
What it does not
How it behaves when it runs, or anything the scan does not read yet: several rubric checks, the repository's history, and compiled code in folders named dist or build. For a hosted server, that the endpoint runs the code that was read. The ooruby Index sets out exactly what was read.
Exactly what was read
Version 0.1.8, the file with digest sha512-ahILKcW5X/HSbSdpT1LDV8+SSy8EA2zTX8LZQUAiE7zt64QbEcTs0SN/BPubbQSAkd2c+m8AJvW3+vqZW5XQuQ==, as the registry publishes it. A published version cannot be replaced, so this names the same bytes for anyone who checks.
Authentication
Runs locally. No hosted endpoint is listed for this package. You run it on your own machine, so there is no endpoint of ours to authenticate against.
How the rungs work

Adding it

Run it with:

npx -y -p @deemwario/agent-proxy@0.1.8 agentproxy

Pinned to 0.1.8, which is the version the findings above were found in. Drop the version to take whatever is newest, and the report on this page stops describing what you installed.

No build provenance published. The repository above is the one the publisher declared, and nothing links it to the package you would install. That is not a mark against this listing, since most packages are published this way, but it is a check nobody can run.

The badge, if this is your listing

It renders the current rung (static scanned) and links back here, where what that does and does not establish is one click away. It updates itself as the evidence deepens.
