Retry storm
An outage that turns every failed task into several billed attempts, at once.
Metered software bills attempts. When something upstream breaks, every task fails, every failure retries, and the spend for a completely broken day comes out higher than for a working one.
It is the most common way a metered bill surprises somebody, and it is worse than a usage spike because there is no value at the other end of it. Nothing was produced.
It is the specific failure that makes a per-run price riskier than it looks, and it is the one a monthly cap prevents entirely.
Capping retries per task but not spend per month. Three retries on ten thousand tasks is still thirty thousand attempts, on a day when none of them worked.
