Remote MCP server
An MCP server hosted by somebody else and reached over the network, rather than installed and run on your machine.
A remote server is a service: you connect to an address, and the code that answers runs on infrastructure you do not see. Many publish no source at all, so the only thing anybody outside can inspect is what the server says when it is connected to.
That changes what can be checked. A package can be read before it is run; a remote server can only be asked for its tool list, and what happens to the data it receives is a matter of trust in whoever runs it.
This site lists remote servers in a free directory with a connection test, and only those that publish their source reach the catalogue, because only they leave something to read.
Judging a remote server by its tool list. The list is what it chooses to tell a client, and says nothing about what it does with what it is sent.
