Readability MCP

v1nvn · MCP server

Readability MCP extracts the main article from a web page after JavaScript has run and returns Markdown with metadata and diagnostics. It reads a file holding the rendered HTML, such as one written by a browser capture, so the page text does not pass through your agent's context. Options cover the output format, which parts of the page to keep or drop, how tables are written and splitting the text into chunks for embedding.

Written by ooruby from the README of @v1nvn/readability-mcp 0.34.0.

Why it's useful

Your agent gets the readable text of a JavaScript-heavy page without the raw page source filling its context.

What you could do with it

  1. 1Save a rendered page from a browser to a file, then extract just the article as Markdown.
  2. 2Keep only the main content of a page by including one selector and excluding navigation and footers.
  3. 3Split an extracted article into token-bounded chunks that are ready for embedding.

Written from its documentation: what it says it can do, not what our checks found.

Maintenance

Not measured

No release date is on record for this package yet. The nightly publisher check records one as it reaches each npm package, about once every ten nights.

Release activity only: it says nothing about quality or safety, and a finished small package can be fine without releases. How it is measured

How far this has been checked

Static scanned

What it establishes
Its published package, or for a hosted server its source repository at a recorded commit, was read file by file, without running it, by every check in our current scan.
What it does not
How it behaves when it runs, or anything the scan does not read yet: several rubric checks, the repository's history, and compiled code in folders named dist or build. For a hosted server, that the endpoint runs the code that was read. The ooruby Index sets out exactly what was read.
Exactly what was read
Version 0.34.0, the file with digest sha512-e0ZwOJ2w92YrIaUT9hjN5GmHwhXwL/KCGSc1vmE7Km/8x6YCuNnNYLC1CBasDUt8En66C0z4kodLkO2sExqrMA==, as the registry publishes it. A published version cannot be replaced, so this names the same bytes for anyone who checks.
Authentication
Runs locally. No hosted endpoint is listed for this package. You run it on your own machine, so there is no endpoint of ours to authenticate against.
