Prompt Scrub
nanocollective · App
Prompt Scrub removes identifying content from prompts and messages before they are sent to a cloud language model. It detects emails, secrets, file paths, URLs and phone numbers, swaps each for a placeholder and keeps the mapping locally so replies can be rehydrated. It runs as a command line tool or Node.js library, can watch your clipboard and can encrypt its session files with a passphrase. It works on the text only, so it does not make you anonymous.

Why it's useful
Details it detects, such as emails, keys and file paths, are swapped out before your prompt goes to a cloud model, and you can review them first.
What you could do with it
- Run the inspect command on a prompt to see each detected email, path or secret and its confidence score.
- Scrub a question that mentions your email and phone number, then restore the model's answer locally.
- Turn on clipboard watching so sensitive values in text you copy are replaced automatically.
Written from its documentation: what it says it can do, not what our checks found.
Maintenance
Not measuredNo release date is on record for this package yet. The nightly publisher check records one as it reaches each npm package, about once every ten nights.
Release activity only: it says nothing about quality or safety, and a finished small package can be fine without releases. How it is measured

In its maker's words
`prompt-scrub` is a small open-source, local-first utility designed to strip identifying content out of prompts and messages before they hit any cloud LLM. It maps your sensitive data (emails, secrets, paths) to stable placeholders, allowing you to rehydr

Static scanned
- What it establishes
- Its published package, or for a hosted server its source repository at a recorded commit, was read file by file, without running it, by every check in our current scan.
- What it does not
- How it behaves when it runs, or anything the scan does not read yet: several rubric checks, the repository's history, and compiled code in folders named dist or build. For a hosted server, that the endpoint runs the code that was read. The ooruby Index sets out exactly what was read.
- Exactly what was read
- Version 1.4.0, the file with digest sha512-Vt8RNQzXppV9m8O1wHIekZUY/ZjT8GC/B96H5ihLl8u3r52KLNT9rACA+h+3bSr81BZWS1LrcgcN4zCixQ1nSQ==, as the registry publishes it. A published version cannot be replaced, so this names the same bytes for anyone who checks.
- Authentication
- Runs locally. No hosted endpoint is listed for this package. You run it on your own machine, so there is no endpoint of ours to authenticate against.
