MCP Prompt Injection Scanner

guardbee · MCP server

MCP Prompt Injection Scanner checks content, rather than code, for indirect prompt injection: instructions planted in a retrieved document, scraped web page or RAG chunk that a model would later read. It looks for override phrases, spoofed system roles, invisible text, text addressed to the AI and instructions to send data to an outside URL, in English and Turkish. It can scan text, a file or a directory, and run from a command line with SARIF output for CI. It sends usage telemetry by default, which can be turned off.

Written by ooruby from the README of @guardbee/mcp-prompt-injection-scanner 0.2.11.

Why it's useful

Instructions planted in documents and web pages can reach a model through retrieval, and this flags them so you can review them first.

What you could do with it

  1. 1Scan a scraped web page for hidden or instruction-like text before your agent reads it.
  2. 2Scan a whole knowledge-base folder for planted instructions and get a list of findings.
  3. 3Scan a knowledge-base repository on every pull request and write the results as SARIF.

Written from its documentation: what it says it can do, not what our checks found.

Maintenance

Not measured

No release date is on record for this package yet. The nightly publisher check records one as it reaches each npm package, about once every ten nights.

Release activity only: it says nothing about quality or safety, and a finished small package can be fine without releases. How it is measured

Published because it was found. A finding is information about where the limits are, not a verdict that the software is unsafe.

In its maker's words

MCP server that scans documents, scraped pages, and RAG content for indirect prompt injection payloads — instruction-override phrases, spoofed chat-template roles, hidden/invisible text, content addressing the AI directly, and data-exfiltration attempts

How far this has been checked

Static scanned

What it establishes
Its published package, or for a hosted server its source repository at a recorded commit, was read file by file, without running it, by every check in our current scan.
What it does not
How it behaves when it runs, or anything the scan does not read yet: several rubric checks, the repository's history, and compiled code in folders named dist or build. For a hosted server, that the endpoint runs the code that was read. The ooruby Index sets out exactly what was read.
Exactly what was read
Version 0.2.11, the file with digest sha512-7erMwsZuIjmkihNNihaVdmeGx7NthLeea+cqiKs2XBfTIgUe9dM9C/jMPXRE00rGmu6Dah18KZKrn6+IWpcptQ==, as the registry publishes it. A published version cannot be replaced, so this names the same bytes for anyone who checks.
Authentication
Runs locally. No hosted endpoint is listed for this package. You run it on your own machine, so there is no endpoint of ours to authenticate against.
